Required Qualifications: Applicants must specifically address how they meet these required qualifications to meet the requirements of the position.

Experience working directly with college age students in higher education (e.g. mentoring, teaching, supplemental instruction, career development, coaching, tutoring or TRIO programs and services);

Experience working with students, staff, and faculty;

Experience in providing academic and/or professional development workshops;

Experience managing courses or projects in the CANVAS Learning Management System ( LMS )

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree

Two or more years of experience in higher education leading student support/student success programs and initiatives in STEM

Experience with student event organization including: promotion, recruitment, programming, and assessment

Knowledge of experiential learning opportunities available to students in STEM

Knowledge of and experience with US Department of Education Title III /V guidelines and regulations

Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, assessment, and practices used to foster student learning

Experience presenting at local, regional and national meetings and conferences;

Job Description

The Student Development Specialist I (Work-based Experience Coordinator) reports to the Director of Generación STEM in Academic Services. Responsible for providing professional support to grant and provides leadership and support to the College of Science and Engineering’s Experiential Education Certificate ( EEC ) program. Assist with overseeing the day-to-day operations of the EEC program including recruitment, training, and records. Contribute to the continued development of the EEC program to train undergraduate students in STEM on career and professional development and other success strategies.This position is funded by a Hispanic-Serving Title III grant and continued employment is anticipated through September 30, 2026.

Job Duties

Support Activity 3 of the grant – Enhance STEM -based career attainment and the Experiential Education Certificate ( EEC ) Program;

Assist in the development of an Experiential Education Certificate ( EEC ) Program to train undergraduate students on career exploration, professional development, and other success strategies;

Collect and maintain institutional data regarding student participation in experiential learning courses and programs;

Collaborate with faculty instructors for cooperative education/internship courses in the College of Science and Engineering, as well as Career Services;

Collaborate on a variety of professional development efforts within and outside of the college;

Serve as a representative and designee for the– Generación STEM Grant and Academic Services;

Assist in conducting assessment activities to facilitate the continuous improvement of program services;

Present at local, regional, and national meetings and conferences on the results of Academic Services programs and services;

Other duties assigned.
