Job Description
The primary role for this position will be to assist Avista personnel with the operation of the Cabinet Gorge Fish Passage Facility and Downstream Fish Transport Program. Individuals will operate equipment at the project sites to isolate and transfer fish to a transport truck and will also assist in the processing and tagging of various fish species. Other duties will include operating and checking tributary traps, boat or stream electrofishing, entering data, assisting with cleaning and maintenance at recreation sites or other field duties as assigned. Individuals may assist with compiling data using spreadsheets (Excel). Successful candidates will gain hands on experience working with Bull Trout (ESA listed species), learn about upstream and downstream fish passage concerns, have the opportunity to work in fisheries across multiple states (in riverine, tributary and lake environments), and be a part of the Bull Trout recovery effort. This position is intended to span from early March (start date may be flexible) through November dependent on staffing needs and housing may be negotiable.

Requirements

Applicant must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Additional education and/or experience in the natural resources field is preferred, but not required.

Applicant needs to be self-motived and a hard worker.

Must be capable of conducting strenuous field work in remote areas and willing to work long hours, nights, and weekends.

This position requires the ability to work with minimal supervision, keep accurate records, adapt to varying work schedules, and work outside in a variety of weather conditions.

– The applicant must be capable of being trained in safe and proper operation of equipment related to the project.

– Must be able to follow instructions, communicate effectively, and possess a valid drivers license.

This position may be filled on a regular basis without further competition at the conclusion of the assignment by the employee selected for the temporary position.
