Job Description:

The Sr Packaging Engineer drives the design, plan and validation of new packaging technologies, line extensions, package/product improvement and technical service for Winland Foods that meet product offering requirements. This position is responsible for delivering ideas to increase the value of the company (cost reductions, innovations, quality improvements, etc.). The Sr Packaging Engineer provides innovative solutions to meet regulatory and sustainability mandates.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Drives the development and commercialization implementation efforts for key complex packaging products while managing a varied project workload.

Executes moderate to complex technical assignments including cost savings, quality improvements, operation support and new product development.

Leads technical Packaging expertise on cross-functional project teams and technical oversight of internal and external manufacturing start-ups and ongoing technical service to ensure a technical approach to solutions on product development teams.

Functions as the Technical Packaging Leader for focused projects, providing direction and monitoring various associates, support groups or contractors as project dictates. Identifies and resolves technical conflicts, including resources, to ensure projects meet deliverables.

Oversees on-going business projects, from start to finish, including product development, specifications, in-process control points, testing requirements, operating guidelines, trials, execution and maintenance.

Oversees, coordinates and conducts trial and startup of new products at manufacturing locations.

Leverages external industry network to keep abreast of technical developments and drive meaningful impact to the company through cost reductions, innovations, etc.

Influences project direction by providing technical input throughout the planning and decision-making process.

Mentors junior level packaging professionals.

Plans and tracks project budgets including capital and expense requirements. Provides initial costing estimates.

Assures all activities are in compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing Principles (GMP).

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Packaging, Engineering or related technical field required

Minimum of 6 years progressive experience in a packaging development role

Demonstrated ability to influence project direction by providing technical input to the planning and decision-making process

Experience in providing effective cross-functional team leadership and technical project management

Possesses broad based technical proficiency and highly evolved tactical skills

Proven skills in project management, negotiation, communication, technical problem solving and ability to perform these skills at an advanced level

Ability to interact and collaborate with RDI groups, external resources, suppliers and consultants to achieve project objectives

Possesses good problem-solving skills through collaboration and application of technical skills

Must have an understanding of statistical tools used for quality assessments and new product qualifications

Solid understanding and experience with paperboard, corrugate, film, plastics and glass packaging materials required

Proficiency with TOPS/CAPE, and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Teams, PowerPoint) required

Ability to travel up to 25% of time
