
Assistant, Medical II

Assists the provider with examinations, treatment, and special procedures. Assists providers and other allied health personnel as directed by established policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities:
Upholds Kaiser Permanentes Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
Assists physician with therapeutic and diagnostic patient care functions which may require sterile technique, enemas, removal or application of dressings (sterile or non- sterile), application of splints, cleansing, irrigating or prepping a wound or area for procedure.
Explains standard self-care procedures as directed by the provider. Performs patient intake which includes but not limited to vitals, and proactive encounters.
Provides assistance in the exam room which is not limited to the following: Positioning and draping the patient, assisting with minor surgical procedures by passing instruments in a sterile manner.
Assists the provider with therapeutic and diagnostic procedures such as muscle injections, joint injections, acupuncture, spine injections, and other procedures, under the direct supervision of the provider.
Completes necessary arrangements/organization of the treatment room prior to performing the procedure.
Prepares the consent form, set-up of the proper equipment for the procedure, and proper sterile precautions in cleaning and maintaining the instrument(s) used in the procedure.
Carries out physicians orders as directed by the provider and initials all diagnostic test forms or specimens per policy.
Follows established workflows for message management via phone, email, or in person. Will direct messages to the provider or appropriate pools and communicate response to members.
Timely documentation in the electronic medical record for all patient communication.
Prepares and delivers instruments for Central Service processing.
Utilizes effective communication and interpersonal relationship skills when interacting with other members of the health team or patients.
Displays tact and courteous behavior when working with staff and patients.
Actively participates in education programs and staff meetings that are scheduled by the department.
Maintains a clean workplace.
Adheres to all Medical Center policies and procedures. May perform other duties assigned within scope of practice.
Promotes, ensures, and improves customer service to internal/external customers by demonstrating skills which are consistent with the organizations philosophy of providing extraordinary customer relations and quality service.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
1000 hours of back-office experience required (within 1 year).
Education
High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant OR Registered Medical Assistant OR NCCT National Certified Medical Assistant OR Medical Assistant Certificate OR Medical Assistant Certificate from American Association of Medical Assistants OR American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate
Basic Life Support required at hire from American Heart Association
Additional Requirements:
Customer service aptitude demonstrated through Customer Service Assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Pain Management Experience Preferred.
