The Role
Responsible for working with various teams across the company to develop strategic plans that reach target audiences and support business continuity. This individual will have oversight of strategies from inception through implementation, provide direction on product development and will evaluate results to ensure success. Plans should be comprehensive and incorporate all means of reaching the intended audience through print, digital or video communications. This includes leveraging current communication vehicles and incorporating new and innovate ways to reach target audiences. Products created in support of plans should be professional, cost-effective and original – they should appeal to target audiences, facilitate engagement and evoke a sense of emotion that creates buy-in of company initiatives.
Lead all aspects of the company’s employee communications strategy. This includes managing a team of creative professionals responsible for producing content for internal and external company communication channels that supports the company’s mission, business objectives and employee engagement goals. Produced products – written as well as photo/video content – celebrate employee successes, document ongoing work (including ship milestones) and support company-wide special events.
Oversight of the company’s digital communications strategy to include company apps, websites and social media. This includes development of plans to ensure content posted to various channels is timely, relevant and professional – and crafted appropriately for the specific channel. Individual is also responsible for ensuring the company is represented on new platforms as digital technology continues to evolve. .
Serve on the company’s crisis communications team and lead the employee communications strategy during crisis situations.
Must Have
Bachelors degree plus 10 years of applicable progressive professional and/or supervisory work experience OR Masters degree and 8 years relevant experience
Nice to Have
In-depth knowledge of shipyard operations and NNS’ workforce – as well as familiarity with company communication channels. This includes understanding of requirements necessary for obtaining photo/video on company property.
Demonstrated success in developing and executing strategic communication plans.
Excellent writing and organizational skills and strong attention to detail. Proficient in AP style, software used to create written and digital communication products.
Experience with crisis communications and managing sensitive issues effectively.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
This position may serve in a leading role during crisis situations and RADCON drills. Experience and knowledge of the Naval Reactors organization and 12 Principles are strongly preferred.
