Northrop Grummans EDIC group delivers full-custom ICs designs to provide the core functionality of our Advanced Multifunction Sensor products. In support of that capability, we are seeking a Senior Principal Digital ASIC Physical Design Engineer for physical implementation digital blocks used in custom mixed signal chips using automated place and route tools.
Roles & Responsibilites:
Responsible for back-end [physical] design of digital subcomponent blocks. Working with the front-end [RTL] designer who creates the code, as well as with the top-level chip leads, analog and RF subcomponent designers to integrate the digital core with all elements in the signal path. Utilize foundry approved verification tools such as Calibre for LVS/DRC.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or other related discipline with 9 years of relevant experience, Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or other related discipline with 7 years of relevant experience, or PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or other related discipline with 4 years of relevant experience.
Experience with synthesis of gate level logic and incorporating compiled macro blocks such as memories as required.
Floor-planning, followed by place and route of the physical layout.
Design of power and clock distribution networks
Familiarity with Cadence tools would be advantageous particularly:
Genus synthesis
Innovus place and route
Tempus static timing analysis
Conformal logical equivalency checking
Voltus power & rail analysis
Ability to work independently, employing Cadence AE support as needed.
U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications:
Delivery of multiple verified digital IC design projects
Robust design approaches such as redundancy and Radiation Tolerance
Experience following a rigorous design process with checkpoint reviews
Experience in CAD design network, tool configuration, and data management
Active DoD Secret Clearance or Higher
This position is contingent upon the ability to obtain and maintain an active DoD Secret Clearance or the transferal of an active DoD Secret Clearance.

This positions standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
“This position reports to Baltimore, MD, USA, however, you are able to work from any of the additional 10 locations listed above.
Salary Range: $117,900 USD – $176,900 USD
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
