Job Description
The University of Pennsylvania’s Master of Health Care Innovation (https://improvinghealthcare.mehp.upenn.edu/) (MHCI) invites applications for a full-time Course Coordinator. As a member of the instructional team, the Course Coordinator supports instructors, teaching assistants, and students during the delivery of online courses. The position works in close collaboration with the team’s instructional designers and also provides some administrative support to the full Medical Ethics and Health Policy (MEHP) Online team.
Courses in the MHCI are usually 6 weeks long and run on a year-round schedule. At most times of year, the course coordinator will support up to 3 courses simultaneously, typically with up to 4 teaching assistants and 60 students each.
The mission of the MHCI is to forge a diverse network of innovative thinkers and leaders passionate about improving health care through transformative learning experiences. Faculty—drawn from across Penn—are leading experts in health policy, operations management, behavioral economics, innovation methodologies, health equity, and leadership.
Students apply their MHCI experience immediately in their work as clinicians, executives, directors, researchers, entrepreneurs, consultants, and more. MEHP Online is based in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy in the Perelman School of Medicine. Responsibilities
The Course Coordinator ensures a consistent, supportive student experience across all courses and provides some administrative support to the full MEHP Online team. This position oversees teams of teaching assistants, supports learning activities, and coordinates scheduling for the development and delivery of courses. Specific responsibilities include supporting:
Course delivery—by:
Preparing, monitoring, and supporting teaching assistants and instructors.
Monitoring and answering questions from students related to course policies and managing their online learning.
Attending and moderating online synchronous classes and posting recordings for students in a timely way.
Leading training and community development for teaching assistants.
Course development—by:
Preparing courses for launch in collaborating with instructional designers.
Assessing, synthesizing, and presenting classroom insights to the MEHP Online instructional team.
The full MEHP Online team—by:
Coordinating scheduling, including synchronous class meetings and recording sessions.
Maintaining accurate course information in multiple online sources.
Serving as part of the on-call student support rotation.
Coordinating other activities as needed.
Time spent on call usually does not exceed 2 hours in a week, approximately one week per month.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule with a work week divided between working onsite and working remotely.
Required Qualifications
High School diploma and 5-7 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience required. Including:
Ability to cultivate and manage relationships with diverse constituencies, including faculty, staff, and working professional students.
Reliable, strong attention to detail, with a commitment to accuracy and consistency.
Ability to meet multiple deadlines on simultaneous projects.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Fluency with educational technologies, including Canvas or an equivalent learning management system.
Flexibility to work with the MEHP Online team on other projects as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience as an instructor or teaching assistant in a higher education setting, and/or experience as an online learner.
Experience editing and proofreading written materials.
Basic multimedia skills, including video editing.
Working knowledge of health care, health policy, and/or innovation methods.
