JOB SUMMARY

Coordinate incoming freight and arrange Sysco backhauls. The work schedule may change periodically. Saturday work and overtime with short notice may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Interact with buyers and marketing associates and the transportation department.

Determine appropriate trucks for backhaul use.

Build loads then schedule with vendors and communicate to distribution backhaul pick-up appointments.

Confirm prior day pick-ups and reschedule if necessary.

Respond to receiving inquiries, update and code vendors.

Bill shipments.

Coordinate and trace shipments when required. Assist with inventory when required.

Serve as liaison between Merchandising and Regional Logistics Team.

Coordinate and monitor back-hauls via collaboration with Operating Company (OpCo) local fleet

Verify and validate Over, Short and Damaged documentation.

Investigate detentions and complete supplier incident report.

Organize the same day and demand status pickups and communicate to Inbound Planner any action required.

Communicate feedback from Regional Managers to Merchandising and vice versa.

Decide if the claim is freight or supplier and gather proper documentation, collect loss from carrier or supplier.

Perform all duties following accepted current standards and will perform other duties as deemed necessary by management to meet departmental and company objectives.

Update freight rates every week.

Run fuel surcharge update weekly.

Monitor loser loads, load fill, customer pick up and logistics earned income.

Enter backhand miles and stops into the database.

Assist in outbound freight if the transportation department does not have trucks to deliver.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) or equivalent.

Experience

1-3 years related experience and/or training.

Foodservice industry knowledge preferred.

Experience in working in region logistics/transportation

Past foodservice distribution, dispatch, tariff and traffic laws, and transportation experience.

Professional Skills

Heavy telephone use.

Computer (PC) experience.

Basic DOS experience.

Precise ten-key by touch.

Accurate typing at 50 wpm.

Knowledge of Interstate Commerce Law, rules and regulations associated with freight.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to tactfully interact with others.

Must have outstanding organizational and managerial skills.

Fundamental clerical procedure knowledge.

Prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously.

Must be able to work interdependently, as well as with others, and demonstrate decision-making capabilities.

Physical Demands

Must be able to stand, walk and sit for long periods.

Work Environment

The facility includes ramps, steps, and ladders at various levels.

The facility includes a freezer, cooler, heated, air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned areas with a great degree of temperature fluctuation.

Adequate ventilation and dust control with good lighting and noise levels that are less than 50 decibels at the loudest

Diesel, gas, propane and electrical vehicles move throughout the worksite.

The office area is adequately and properly equipped to handle the requirements of this job.
